Community Clean Up Yirrkala

14 May 2026

This week, East Arnhem Regional Council’s Waste and Environment team partnered with Envirobank, Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation, Yirrkala Bilingual School, and Clontarf Foundation to deliver a Community-wide clean up in Yirrkala.

Envirobank facilitated an education workshop for students at the Yirrkala Bilingual School prior to the clean up, focusing on waste management and recycling. The students then headed out with teachers to collect discarded cans and litter throughout the community.

The event concluded with a community BBQ at the Yirrkala Oval, including prizes and a slip-and-slide setup activity on the oval. Approximately 130 bags of cans were collected, which will be processed by the East Arnhem Regional Council Municipal team. All proceeds raised through the collection of cans will be returned to Yirrkala School to support their initiatives.

East Arnhem Regional Council would like to extend a special thank you to Woolworths for generously donating food and prizes to support the Clean Up. We also thank all community members and participants who contributed to the success of the event.
