Media Release: Leading The Way - No More Violence

19 October 2026

East Arnhem Regional Council’s Local Authority Members for Ramingining proactively supported the call by Council to tackle domestic violence through the ‘No More Violence’ community event held on 17 October 2026 in Ramingining.

Driven by East Arnhem Regional Council and the Council’s Local Authority Members, the event engaged multiple stakeholders throughout the region to deliver an important message – No More Violence.

East Arnhem Regional Councillor Jason Mirritjawuy and Local Authority Members Gilbert Walkuli, John Djoma, Jason Mirritjawuy, Fabian Garawirrtja and Lizzy Mindhili spoke throughout the day with community members about violence, calling back to their Local Authority resolution on 21 July 2026 for:

Family, community members and all people calling out and reporting domestic violence and violence against and neglect of children when they see it.

Council was proud to see strong support from many stakeholders who were involved including: Biṉipiliŋmirriŋ Djägaginin Mala (BDM), Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation, Bula'bula Arts Aboriginal Corporation, Ramingining School, NT Police, NO MORE AU, Durack Civil, Deltareef (Gumatj Group), AFL Northern Territory, Arafura Swamp Rangers Aboriginal Corporation, ALPA Store, ALPA RAES and the Defence Force.

Daman Ryan reflected on Norman Daymirringu’s speech saying, “Norman Daymirringu is a powerful community leader, he got everyone in a huge circle with arms linked [#linkup] and spoke in the middle of the circle about violence, social behaviours and social media and his words and passion was infectious.”

Vicki Wassens (Ramingining Council Services Manager) reflected on the day saying, “We achieved our goal of spreading the message and education of ‘No More Violence’ and we gave the community an opportunity to come together for a fun and social afternoon.”

East Arnhem Regional Council’s 100% Aboriginal elected Council and its Local Authorities in each community remain committed to work in close collaboration with the NT Police and the Northern Territory Government to tackle domestic violence and other crime.
