2026 Regional Council By-election
A By-election is being held to fill a casual vacancy in the East Arnhem Regional Council Gumurr Miwatj Ward (1 vacancy).
Nominations
Nominations are now open. Completed candidate nomination forms must be received by NTEC by 12:00pm, Wednesday 27 May. Late nominations cannot be accepted.

The Electoral Commissioner is the returning officer for the June 2026 Regional Councils By-elections.

2025 Local Government Elections
The 2025 Local Government Elections took place in August 2025, inviting voters from across the Territory to participate.
Twelve Councillors were selected to represent the five wards across East Arnhem: Birr Rawarrang Ward (Ramingining), Gumurr Gattjirrk Ward (Milingimbi), Gumurr Marthakal Ward (Galiwin’ku), Gumurr Miwatj Ward (Gunyangara & Yirrkala) and Gumurr Miyarrka Ward (Gapuwiyak).

Voting Information
Remote voting for East Arnhem will commenced on 18th August 2025 through to the 21st August 2025. The dates, times and locations for voting in each community are outlined in the table below.
Voting was not required for Gapuwiyak (Gumurr Miyarrka), Gunyangara (Gumurr Miwatj), and Yirrkala (Gumurr Miwatj). For more information visit: https://ntec.nt.gov.au/
