2025 Local Government Elections 


The 2025 Local Government Elections will take place in August, inviting voters from across the Territory to participate.


Twelve Councillors will be selected to represent the five wards across East Arnhem: Birr Rawarrang Ward (Ramingining), Gumurr Gattjirrk Ward (Milingimbi), Gumurr Marthakal Ward (Galiwin’ku), Gumurr Miwatj Ward (Gunyangara & Yirrkala) and Gumurr Miyarrka Ward (Gapuwiyak).

Key Dates
Friday, 11 July 2025 – Nomination Open
Tuesday, 22 July 2025 – Electoral roll closes
Thursday, 31 July 2025 - Nominations close
Friday, 1 August 2025 - Declaration of Nominations
Monday, 11 August 2025 – Early and Mobile voting commences
Saturday, 23 August 2025 - Election day
Monday 8 September - Declaration of the election result

Voting Information



Remote voting for East Arnhem will commence on 14th August through to the 22nd August. Dates for each community will be announce after nominations close.

Nomination Information


This is your opportunity to represent your community. Nominations will open on Friday 11 July and close 12 noon, Thursday 31 July.

The below results relate to the NT Council Elections conducted on 28 August 2021.


Due to only a minimum number of candidates nominating in the Gumurr Miwatj Ward, Gumurr Marthakal Ward and Birr Rawarrang Ward no elections were required in these wards.
