Madeleine is a 2011 James Cook University graduate. The 2026 Spirit of JCU Award recognises outstanding alumni who live or work predominantly in remote locations across Australia.

Madeleine has been working in East Arnhem Land since 2017 and is committed to strengthening animal and human health outcomes through her work with East Arnhem Regional Council.

During her acceptance speech, Madeleine said "I have been humbled over the years by the strength and resilience of the Yolŋu people and their animals."

East Arnhem Regional Council (EARC) provides Veterinarian & Animal Services across six remote communities in East Arnhem Land. The program has a strong focus on the connection between human, animal and environmental health, following One Health principles.
