Celebrating two longest serving Councillors

30 June 2025

During our recent Ordinary Council meeting we celebrated two of our longest serving Councillors who have been with Council since its inception in 2008.

Councillor Banambi Wunungmurra (Gumurr Miwatj Ward) and Councillor Kaye Thurlow (Gumurr Marthakal Ward) announce their retirement at the end of the current Council term. Both Councillors have contributed significantly to the East Arnhem region, and we were please to celebrate this together.

As our first President for over 10 years, Cr. Banambi Wunungmurra is respected and loved across the region. He listened and supported the people across our East Arnhem communities.

Cr. Kaye Thurlow has also represented Council strongly from the beginning of us all coming together in 2008. Kaye has served tirelessly as a true bridge between the Balanda and traditional worlds as a former teacher and Principal.

On behalf of the Council we are deeply thankful for their service to the region and the people of East Arnhem.”
