Today the results of the 2025 Local Government Elections have been officially declared by the Northern Territory Electoral Commission.

East Arnhem Regional Council is pleased to announce the following 12 Councillors have been elected to represent the East Arnhem Region in their respective wards for the next four years:

Councillors will come together from across the communities and homelands of East Arnhem Land at the historic Garma site at Gulkula on 16 September.


Council will then move to meet in the Council Office in Nhulunbuy, and hold its first formal Council meeting on 18 September in the Nhulunbuy Regional Support Office.


“This is an exciting time for our newly Elected Members to come together to consider and provide direction on how to strengthen the lives of the people of the East Arnhem Region”, said East Arnhem Regional Council’s Chief Executive Officer Dale Keehne.


“East Arnhem Regional Council has strong Yolŋu leadership and I’m proud to welcome back ten of our previously Elected Members. I’d also like to extend a warm welcome to two Councillors who will be joining for the first time: Murphy YUNUPINGU and Cyril BUKULATJPI. As the First Nations led and controlled Local Government Council for the East Arnhem region, I am looking forward to supporting and working together with our newly Elected members.”

East Arnhem Regional Council was honoured to attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Nhulunbuy Cenotaph (Arafura Park), joining the community in solemn reflection to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of Australian veterans. We recognise the significant contributions of Yolŋu people who fought and supported the defence of Australia across East Arnhem Land during World War II.  Gumurr Miwatj Councillor Murphy Yunupingu laid a wreath on behalf of East Arnhem Regional Council paying tribute to all who have served. Lest we forget.
